Meet Our Researchers: Luis Miguel Giraldo Salazar

Meet Luis Miguel Giraldo Salazar, one of the doctoral researchers involved in the EU-funded OWIN6G project. Luis Miguel is an electronics engineer from Universidad Nacional de Colombia and is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of Valencia, Spain.

He holds a master’s degree in Photonics, Nanotechnology, Time-Frequency Metrology and Complex Systems from PICS-UBFC in France, where he developed a multidisciplinary background in advanced photonics, complex systems, and precision measurement technologies.

Building Secure and Intelligent Optical Networks

As part of OWIN6G, Luis Miguel focuses on the development of software-defined networking (SDN) management and security strategies for optical wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in future 6G communication systems.

His research addresses several key challenges, including designing SDN-based strategies to improve network security and communication performance, and developing automated, machine learning-driven security mechanisms that can operate in real time on dedicated digital signal processing (DSP) hardware.

He also investigates quality-of-service (QoS) requirements for 6G wireless sensor networks and explores how different layers of a network — from sensing devices and network topology to hardware platforms and communication protocols — interact to influence overall efficiency.

Towards Adaptive 6G Communication Systems

Through his work, Luis Miguel is contributing to the development of secure, adaptive optical wireless sensor networks capable of responding to changing network conditions while maintaining high performance.

His research supports the broader OWIN6G goal of developing robust, intelligent, and scalable communication infrastructures for the 6G era.
