Meet Our Researchers: Christos Giachoudis

Meet Christos Giachoudis, one of the doctoral researchers involved in the EU-funded OWIN6G project. Christos is pursuing his PhD at École Centrale Méditerranée, France, as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions doctoral network.

He holds an Integrated Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. His research focuses on optical wireless body area networks (WBANs) for healthcare applications, particularly patient monitoring systems.

Advancing Optical Wireless Communications for Healthcare

As part of OWIN6G, Christos is working on the design, modelling, and optimisation of optical wireless communication systems for medical applications.

His research addresses challenges at both the physical (PHY) and medium access control (MAC) layers, with a particular focus on reducing energy consumption while maintaining reliable communication.

He investigates MAC-layer solutions for interference management, energy efficiency, and quality of service (QoS), as well as complementary technologies that could improve network coverage and further reduce power consumption.

Another important aspect of his work is the development of a low-cost proof of concept to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed technologies.

Connecting Research and Practical Applications

Beyond optical telecommunications, Christos is interested in embedded systems, software development, and interdisciplinary research.

Through his work within OWIN6G, he is contributing to the development of next-generation optical wireless communication technologies with potential applications in healthcare and patient monitoring.
